Scott Towaij’s musical influences range from Stevie Wonder to Steeley Dan and everything in between. He blends funk, rock, blues and soul to create a unique brand of music that is guaranteed to get you up and grooving. He is a musician, singer / songwriter, worship leader and teacher who additionally has dual certification as a trauma and addictions counselor.
Scott’s youth was filled with drugs, alcohol and women. He has survived severe trauma in his life and has been clean and sober for the past 23 years. With his wife Sherri and daughter Cheyenne by his side he is a devout follower of Christ and works hard to shine his light for the Kingdom.
His previous album “Sons of Light” received major radio support in Canada and has now worked its way into the United States and Europe. Multiple hit singles including “One Church” and “Shine On” landed him big gigs like the Cisco Ottawa Bluesfest opening for Kirk Franklin and the ability to play the Kingdom Bound music festival in Buffalo for its 25Th anniversary sharing the stage with the who’s who in the industry. He recently opened for former Newsboys front man Peter Furler and Scott feels like he is just getting started.
On the encouragement of Brock Tozer, music director for CHRI 99.1 FM, Scott returned to the recording studio in August of 2011. He decided to work with two time producer of the year Andrew Horrocks once again but this time to bring in an all-star cast of musicians and singers from the CCM. The project is now nearing completion and songs are being mixed and mastered. The all-star cast includes a horn section that has played with all the MOTOWN greats like Aretha Franklin and Billy Preston. Award winning keyboard player Mike Janzen brought his funky grooves to the mix and Scott’s longtime lead guitarist Joel Williams has delivered once again. The new record “Freedom Train” also brings together a variety of singers who have lent their voices to this project like: Ali Matthews, Sean Dayton, Chris Bray, Dana Marie & Amy Savin. Colin Bernard who just finished releasing an album he made with renowned producer Ed Cash, brought his “Bono” from U2 voice. The black trio of Rufus John, Natahsa John and Melissa Laguerre delivered a rich texture that screams MOTOWN! Rapper Prosper Laguerre rapped on the song “Forever Changed” which has gone in a total Hip Hop direction.
The first single (still to be determined) is set to be released to radio on Monday January 16, 2012 and the CD Release concert will be held at Bikers Church in Ottawa on Saturday March 3RD! Scott is hoping that 2012 will be a big year for his music and is excited to see what God will do!
